Rodeo Team Takes Wins in Texas Competition

(May 2, 2015) The McNeese State University men’s and women’s rodeo teams both took first place at the final rodeo competition of the season at the Wharton County Community College in Wharton, Texas, rodeo competition.
           
Ike Fontenot, Ville Platte, won the men’s all-around championship, while McKenzie Cooper, DeQuincy, won the women’s all-around championship.
           
In goat tying, Lauren Hansen, Sulphur, finished in first place, Kirsten Smith, St. Francisville, finished in second place, Cooper finished in fifth place, Carly Hibbs, Prineville, Ore., took seventh place and Morgan Wallace, Piedmont, Okla., finished in ninth place.
           
Hibbs and Cooper tied for third and fourth places respectively in the break away roping competition, while Sterling Baylor, Bunnel, Fla., placed seventh and Paige Plush, Merryville, finished in 10th place.
           
Kimberleigh Scott, Baton Rouge, finished in ninth place in ladies barrel racing.
           
Fontenot and his partner, Trace Porter, Leesville, placed second in team roping. Fontenot also finished third in tie down calf roping, while Porter placed fourth and Tristan Martin, Sulphur, tied for seventh place.
             
In saddle bronc riding, Brant Brummet, Reeds, Mo., placed third and Fontenot placed fourth.
           
Jesse Anderson, Unionville, Mo., placed fourth in the bareback riding competition.
