McNeese Rodeo Team Wins Competition in Texas

(October 14, 2015) The McNeese State University men’s and women’s rodeo teams took first place in the recent Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo in Mt. Pleasant. This is the second rodeo win in a row for the women’s team.

Mia Manzanares, Opelousas, finished first in goat tying, while McKenzie Cooper, DeQuincy, finished in fifth place.

In the breakaway roping competition, Aldyn Ashton, Sebring, Fla., finished in third place.

Matthew Ellender, Carlyss, won the saddle bronc riding competition, Brant Brummett, Reeds, Mo., finished second and Tyler Baeza, Beaver Dam, Ariz., finished third.

Jesse Anderson, Unionville, Mo., took first place in bareback riding for the second week in a row, while Chad Rutherford, Itasca, Texas, finished second, Alex Edmonds, Fort Scott, Kan., finished fifth and Sandro Ferretti, Verquières, France, finished eighth.

In tie down roping, Matthew Frey, Morganza, finished in sixth place and Riley Istre, Vinton, finished eighth, while Cole Trivette, Statesville, N.C., took sixth place in bull riding.

After three rodeo events, the women’s team is leading in the Southern Region, while the men’s team is in third place.

The McNeese rodeo team plays host to its annual rodeo Oct 30-31 at the Burton Complex.
