(October 30, 2014) The McNeese State University women's rodeo team took first place while the men's rodeo team took second place in the recent Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo in Mt. Pleasant.

Ike Fontenot, Ville Platte, was named the men's all-around champion and Kirsten Smith, St. Francisville, was named the women's all-around champion.

McKenzie Cooper, DeQuincy, finished in first place, while Smith finished in second place in the breakaway roping competition.

In goat tying, Smith finished tied for first place and Jacquelyn Gregory, Lamar, Mo., finished in a tie for fourth place.

In tie down roping, Bobby Abernathy, Athens, Ala., finished in a tie for first place, while Fontenot took fourth place.

In the team roping event, Fontenot and Trace Porter, Leesville, finished in second place.

The McNeese rodeo team plays host to its annual rodeo scheduled this weekend - Oct 31-Nov. 1 - at the Burton Complex.
