McNeese Rodeo Kicks Off New Season

The McNeese State University men's and women's rodeo teams both took second place in the first National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southern Region competition of the season Sept. 26-27 at the Panola College Rodeo in Carthage, Texas.

Ike Fontenot of Ville Platte was named the men's all-around champion.

In calf roping, Fontenot took fourth place, while Bobby Abernathy, Athens, Ala., finished in fifth place.

Josh Dension, Iowa, placed fourth in steer wrestling.

In the team roping event, Fontenot and Trace Porter, Leesville, finished in second place, while Jackson Massey, Sulphur Springs, Texas, and his partner finished in fifth place.

In goat tying, Lauren Hansen, Sulphur, finished in second place, and Morgan Wallace, Piedmont, Okla., finished in fourth.

Sterling Baylor, Bunnel, Fla., took fourth place in breakaway roping while McKenzie Cooper, DeQuincy, finished in sixth place, and Carly Hibbs, Portland, Ore., finished in seventh.

The next rodeo is scheduled this weekend at Southwest Texas Junior College in Ulvalde.
