{"id":5345,"date":"2011-03-17T15:22:18","date_gmt":"2011-03-17T20:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/ie_policy\/selective_service_requirement\/"},"modified":"2025-03-12T14:54:55","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T19:54:55","slug":"selective_service_requirement","status":"publish","type":"ie_policy","link":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/selective-service-registration-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Selective Service Registration Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\">Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">In accordance with Louisiana R.S. 17:3151, postsecondary institutions must require proof of registration with the Selective Service from persons required to register for the federal draft under the federal Military Selective Service Act prior to enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\">Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"rteindent1\">McNeese State University requires male students aged 18-25 who are US citizens or permanent residents to provide proof of registration with the Selective Service prior to enrollment. In accordance with Louisiana law, the University provides for two exceptions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A veteran of the armed forces of the United States may submit a copy of his discharge papers or his discharge certificate as evidence of compliance with this law; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A person who has not registered for the federal draft shall be eligible to enroll in the institution if both of the following occur:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The requirement for the person to register has terminated or become inapplicable to the person; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The person demonstrates to the University that the failure to register was not a knowing and willful failure to register. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\">Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Office of the Registrar and Admissions is responsible for ensuring compliance with this requirement and archiving proof of registration with Selective Service documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While acceptance to the University may be granted prior to receipt of proof of registration with the Selective Service, registration into classes is prohibited until such proof is received.
