{"id":5204,"date":"2015-10-15T18:14:47","date_gmt":"2015-10-15T23:14:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/ie_policy\/awarding_of_posthumous_degrees\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T13:39:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T18:39:06","slug":"awarding_of_posthumous_degrees","status":"publish","type":"ie_policy","link":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/awarding-of-posthumous-degrees\/","title":{"rendered":"Awarding of Posthumous Degrees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In accordance with University of Louisiana System Board Rules <a href=\"https:\/\/ul-system.files.svdcdn.com\/production\/resources\/board-members\/Rules\/Chapter-I\/Chpt_I_VI_Special_Degrees_Feb2013.pdf?dm=1755986066\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Part Two, Chapter I, Section VI<\/span><\/a>, a deceased student who did not complete all requirements for their undergraduate degree at the time of death may be awarded a degree posthumously provided the following conditions are met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The student was enrolled at the time of death.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The student had earned the appropriate cumulative or degree GPA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The student had completed all requirements for their degree up to the last semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The academic department head and dean of the deceased student\u2019s primary major recommends the action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When a degree is awarded posthumously, this action will be noted when the student\u2019s name is announced at commencement and will be noted in the commencement program.
