{"id":17427,"date":"2026-03-09T13:02:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T18:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/?post_type=ie_policy&#038;p=17427"},"modified":"2026-03-09T13:04:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T18:04:42","slug":"differential-tuition-policy","status":"publish","type":"ie_policy","link":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/differential-tuition-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Differential Tuition Policy\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Pursuant to\u00a0Act No. 790 of the 2024 Louisiana State Legislature Regular Session, McNeese State University has implemented differential tuition for graduate programs and undergraduate programs that have been identified as high-cost programs. According to the state policy, proposals for differential tuition may be entertained by the University of Louisiana System, and, along with university-assessed mandatory fees, may only increase by no more than ten percent over any two-year period.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Purpose<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy&nbsp;establishes&nbsp;guidelines to&nbsp;eliminate&nbsp;ambiguity in how differential tuition is applied and the timeline for billing commitments.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Scope<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy applies to undergraduate and graduate students and does not apply to dual enrollment&nbsp;programs or any special programs that have a flat rate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Applicable Programs<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In alignment with the Louisiana Board of Regents\u2019 determination of high-cost programs, the following degree programs at McNeese are subject to differential tuition rates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All Graduate Programs&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accounting&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agricultural Sciences&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Art&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biological Science&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business Administration&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemical Engineering&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemistry&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer Science&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engineering&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finance&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health Systems Management&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Humanities, with a concentration in Theatre Arts&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kinesiology&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Liquefied Natural Gas Business&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Management&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mass Communication&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mathematical Science&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanical Engineering&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical Laboratory Science&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Music&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Natural Resource Conservation Management&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nursing&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nursing, LPN to BSN&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Radiologic Sciences&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Radiologic Sciences, RT to BS&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Concentrations within each major are included. Should a student be enrolled in&nbsp;two or more degree&nbsp;programs and one of those programs is subject to differential tuition rates, a differential tuition rate will be billed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Registration<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students in differential tuition degree programs will register for classes according to the university\u2019s registration schedule.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Differential Tuition Determination Dates<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For purposes of assessing differential tuition, a&nbsp;student\u2019s&nbsp;declared major as of the dates below will&nbsp;determine&nbsp;whether the differential tuition rate applies for the corresponding academic term.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Spring Term:<\/strong>&nbsp;October 1&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Summer Term:<\/strong>&nbsp;March 1&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Fall Term:<\/strong>&nbsp;July 1&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Deadline to Change Majors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To have a change of major considered for differential tuition purposes, students must&nbsp;submit&nbsp;the change&nbsp;<strong>by the day before<\/strong>&nbsp;the applicable determination dates above.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students whose declared major on the determination date is a differential tuition degree program will be&nbsp;assessed&nbsp;the differential tuition rate for that term. Students who register after the determination dates and are enrolled in a differential tuition degree program will also be&nbsp;assessed&nbsp;the differential tuition rate for that term.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cStudent Billing and Recording\u201d and \u201cStudent Accounts Receivable\u201d sections of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/accounts-receivable-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Accounts Receivable Policy<\/a>&nbsp;apply to differential tuition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Financial aid calculations are adjusted to consider differential tuition rates when students are awarded.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Exceptions and Special Circumstances<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Any exceptions or&nbsp;special circumstances&nbsp;not depicted in this policy are at the discretion of the Executive Leadership Team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading display-3\"><strong>Communication<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy is distributed via the University Policies webpage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"parent":0,"template":"","policy_types":[13],"class_list":["post-17427","ie_policy","type-ie_policy","status-publish","hentry","policy_types-business-and-finance"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ie_policy\/17427","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ie_policy"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/ie_policy"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ie_policy\/17427\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":17432,"href":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ie_policy\/17427\/revisions\/17432"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17427"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"policy_types","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mcneese.edu\/policy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/policy_types?post=17427"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
