McNeese Band Marching to London Benefit

McNeese Band Marching to London Benefit

(June 28, 2017) The Southwest Louisiana community is invited to a benefit for McNeese State University’s Pride of McNeese Marching Band Aug. 5 at the Crying Eagle Brewery in Lake Charles with proceeds going to the band’s “Marching McNeese to London” fundraising campaign.

The event - Drums & Drafts - will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the brewery. The McNeese band has accepted a prestigious invitation to participate in the 2018 London New Year’s Day Parade and proceeds will help defray costs for the trip.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and include admission, entertainment and two draft beers. Advanced tickets - cash or check only - will be available July 5-Aug. 3 at the McNeese Alumni Center.

Participants can purchase food from area food trucks and enjoy a local DJ and performances by McNeese’s Steel Drum Band, African Drum Ensemble and Drumline.

“We are excited to represent not only our university, but also our city, our state and our country on this international stage,” said Dr. Jay Jacobs, McNeese director of bands. “Our band is one of only two American university marching bands invited to participate in this international event that draws over 650,000 spectators along the parade route, as well as over 350 million television viewers worldwide.”

The Pride of McNeese Marching Band was nominated to participate in the parade and then chosen by a select committee from London for this honor, according to Jacobs.

“Fundraising events such as Drums & Drafts will help our students offset some of the expenses for this exciting opportunity,” said Jacobs.

Individuals, groups or businesses can donate to the band travel fund through the McNeese Foundation. Donations can be made online at or by calling 337-475-5588.
