Geology) and Master\u2019s Degree (M.A. Geography) from The University of Texas at Austin and his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. He has been awarded a National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant and two Fulbright awards for dissertation research on farmer soil knowledge systems in the Guatemalan highlands, research on Amazonian Dark Earths (ADEs), and dam impacts on the Madeira River tributary of the Amazon River in Brazil.
