McNeese State University invites qualified applicants and nominations for the position of Dean, College of Business. This is a full-time, 12-month, unclassified administrative position.  The appointment is available beginning in July 2021.

Reporting Authority: Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management.  Is appointed by the President of the University and the appointment is approved by the Board of Supervision of the University of Louisiana System.

The College: The College of Business is one of six colleges that comprise the university and has approximately 30 FTE faculty members.  The College offers majors in accounting, finance, management, marketing, and general business administration. College of Business enrollment is over 1,000 undergraduate majors and 75 MBA students. The undergraduate and the graduate programs are accredited by the AACSB International.

The University: McNeese State University, founded in 1939, has approximately 7,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. It offers graduate degrees across a range of disciplines including business, education, engineering, English, creative writing, music education, and nursing. Located in a culturally diverse area with a population of more than 180,000 (Lake Charles and suburbs), the campus encompasses over 386 acres and is conveniently located to serve students from both southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas.

Position Description and Responsibilities

The Dean is expected to provide dynamic leadership in teaching, scholarly productivity, and service. The Dean is also expected to stimulate and support collegiality, as well as a productive relationship within the university community and the area business community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining AACSB accreditation and accreditation standards.
  • Guide the development and implementation of strategic plans for the College.
  • Implement university policies within the College of Business and supervise development of those policies unique to the college.
  • Promote a desirable image for the college and university and seek to promote relations between the university and the business community.
  • Work with the University Foundation to develop fundraising activities for the College.
  • Maintain current records for the College.
  • Examine and analyze both the content and adequacy of the College curricula.
  • Work with associate dean to coordinate class schedules for the College.
  • Counsel Associate Dean on faculty recruiting, development, and faculty utilization.
  • Responsible for fiscal matters of the College.
  • Consult with associate dean on the preparation of annual budgets and consolidate departmental requests into a single budget for the College.
  • After consulting with Associate Dean and promotion and tenure committee, recommend which faculty members in the college should be promoted, receive merit pay, be granted tenure, or be granted an official leave.
  • Oversee allotment of space and coordinate maintenance of facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management.


  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an AACSB accredited institution in a discipline appropriate for the college programs.
  • Experience with AACSB accreditation and assessment processes.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of successful supervision of professionals.
  • Evidence of successful interaction with students and student organizations.
  • Proven record of innovativeness and ability to foster teamwork.
  • Commitment to fostering a student-centered learning community.
  • Ability to budget and operate within allocated resources.
  • Have sufficient administrative experience in a higher education setting (Department Chair or higher) and a teaching/scholarly record to support eligibility for tenure at the full professor level.
