Mask Mandate

We Change Lives

November 4, 2021

The mask mandate issued by Governor John Bel Edwards for many public facilities has been lifted. However, McNeese remains under the University of Louisiana System COVID Guidelines and we are obligated to follow CDC guidance that states:

“The updated guidance now recommends that vaccinated individuals wear masks indoors in communities of substantial or high transmission.” Calcasieu Parish is currently classified as Substantial transmission.

For now, students, faculty and staff shall wear masks in the classroom and indoor public spaces.

When our region/community is classified at a lower level of transmission (below high or substantial), the ULS requirement of masks for faculty, staff, and students in classrooms and indoor public spaces no longer applies. We are actively tracking the community transmission rate, and the campus community will be notified via email when the indoor mask requirement is lifted.

To track the transmission rate by parish, go to

https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view|Louisiana|Risk|community_transmission_level

Click on Your Community, County View, then select Louisiana and Calcasieu Parish.

Remember to follow good personal hygiene practices and wash your hands frequently, cough into your sleeve or a tissue, avoid touching your nose or mouth with your hands and stay home if you are not feeling well.

Hand sanitizing stations are located in buildings throughout campus and disposable masks are available in all academic buildings and high traffic areas such as the Library and Rec Complex.
