SAGE Lecture Series – “Enigmatic Stream”
As part of the spring 2020 SAGE series, author and photographer Richard Sexton will present a lecture titled, “Enigmatic Stream: Industrial Landscapes of the Lower Mississippi River,” at 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, in the McNeese State University SEED Center.
Based on the book by the same title, Sexton’s lecture explores the section of the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to New Orleans, one of the most important economic corridors in the country. Sexton’s lecture examines this superhighway of activity and the juxtapositions the river exemplifies: between innovation and decay and the manmade and the natural.
Featuring black-and-white photographs by Sexton, this lecture captures the complicated and often mysterious section of the country’s largest waterway and the dueling American impulses between exploitation and preservation.
Sexton’s photographs have appeared in Abitare, Photographer’s Forum, and View Camera magazines. He is the author of Creole World: Photographs of New Orleans and the Latin.
SAGE lectures are open to the public and cost is $65 for the series, $69 if purchased after Jan. 27. For more information or to register, call 337-475-5616 or visit www.mcneese.edu/leisure.
