Following CDC guidelines restricting events involving 50 or more participants, this event has been postponed.

As part of the McNeese State University spring 2020 SAGE series, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Brian Johnson and Kitty Johnson will give a presentation titled “Wildlife Conservation in East Africa” at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 19 in the SEED Center.

The husband and wife pair have traveled extensively in Africa, including Tanzania, Zambia, Namibia and Kenya. As conservationists, they have worked to raise awareness of threatened and endangered African species, including African elephant populations disappearing due to poaching, overgrazing and habitat loss. In 2015, Brian Johnson climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s high peak, to raise funds for the wildlife charity Save the Elephants.

In their lecture, the Johnsons will talk about their volunteering and conservation efforts and the projects they’re currently working on in East Africa. They will also discuss the challenges faced in protecting the large animals of the region, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants and rhinoceroses.

SAGE lectures are open to the public and cost is $69 for the series or $20 for individual events, payable by card or check. For more information or to register, call 337-475-5616 or visit www.mcneese.edu/leisure.
