Faculty/Guest Artist Series – Molly Goforth

McNeese State University’s W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts will present a free concert by Molly Goforth, cello, and Michael Blaney, violin, at 5 p.m., Jan. 26, in Ralph Squires Recital Hall. The program is part of the department’s Faculty/Guest Artist Series.

The program will feature “Suite No. 5 in C minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Sonata for Solo Cello” by George Crumb and “Sonata for Violin and Cello” by Maurice Ravel.

Goforth received a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Louisville and a master’s degree in cello performance from DePaul University in Chicago. She is the principal cellist of the Baton Rouge Symphony and a member of the Acadiana Symphony. She also serves as cello faculty at McNeese and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL).

Blaney received his bachelor’s degree in music from the Peabody Conservatory and two Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan. He serves as director of orchestral activities, conductor of the ULL Symphony Orchestra and instructor of violin at ULL. He is a former member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and has previously performed as associate concertmaster for the Acadiana Symphony. He has also served as conductor of the Acadiana Symphony’s Young Peoples String Orchestra.
