Banners Cultural Season – “Beuys” Film Screening
Banners at McNeese State University will hold a free lecture by art historian Christa-Maria Lerm-Hayes followed by a screening of the documentary film “Beuys” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, in Tritico Theatre in the Shearman Fine Arts Center.
One of the most influential German sculptors of the post-World War II era, Joseph Beuys’ work included sculpture, performance, drawing and installation. This 2017 film, directed by Andres Veiel, illuminates how Beuys’s goal was to create social sculpture: nothing less than the transformation of Western culture into a peaceful, democratic and creative place.
Lerm-Hayes received her doctorate at the University of Cologne. She has served as professor of iconology and head of the Research Graduate School at the University of Ulster, Belfast. Currently, she is a professor of modern and contemporary art history at the University of Amsterdam.
