Beta Gamma Sigma Initiates and Award Winners

Dr. Lonnie Phelps, head of the management, marketing and business administration department at McNeese State University, presents Samantha Woodstock Duncan with the 2012 Distinguished Senior in the College of Business award.

Twenty-one business students and faculty members have been initiated into the McNeese State University chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma Scholastic Business Honor Society.

Mark Hebert, regional manager for U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu was the guest speaker for the ceremony.

Membership into Beta Gamma Sigma, which stands for honor, wisdom and earnestness respectively, is the highest national academic recognition that an undergraduate or graduate business student can receive.

Beta Gamma Sigma initiates are: Richard Paul Andersen, Lake Charles, graduate student; Khanh Tran Dao, Vietnam, Samantha Woodstock Duncan, Jamaica, Brittany Reneé Hebert, Grand Lake, Paige Nikole LaRocca, Lake Charles, Thanh K. Le, Lake Charles, Jenny Marlene Robayo Ladino, Colombia, and Derek J.Vande Brake, Lake Charles, seniors; Viola Ekeoma Amuta, Nigeria, Tara Leigh Dennis, Jennings, Manuel J. Fontenot III, Lake Charles, Brock James Moreaux, New Iberia, Tu Thanh Ngo, Vietnam, Patrick James O'Meara, Lake Charles, Anop Pandey, Thailand, Andrew Lee Perkins II, Crowley, Tewan Premchit, Thailand, and Klancy Ruth Shope, Longville, juniors; and Mary Kaye Eason, instructor of management, Daniel M. Groft, assistant professor of economics, and Prasad Vemala, assistant professor of management, faculty.

Several business awards were also presented at the ceremony.

Duncan received the Distinguished Senior in the College of Business award.  The Jeff and Rhonda Miller Distinguished student awards went to: Derek Galloway, Lake Charles, accounting; Vande Brake, finance; LaRocca, general business; Renn Savoie, Grand Lake, management; Chad Barnhart, Lake Charles, marketing; and Inga Efimenko, Russia, Master of Business Administration.
The Delta Sigma Pi Scholarship Key recipient was Victoria Sercovich, Sulphur, while the CITGO Scholar recipients were Sercovich, Ladino, Kristen Bahnsen, Vinton, Giang Le, Vietnam, and Jessica Pago, Ragley.

The Society for Human Resource Management Adviser's Award for Exemplary Service went to Cathy Martin, Lake Charles, while the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Intern of the Year went to Jess Davis, Moss Bluff.
