Rick and Donna Richard Donate to McNeese

(July 27, 2015) McNeese State University President Dr. Philip Williams accepted a $135,000 donation from Rick and Donna Richard of Lake Charles to create a scholarship for students studying in the area of accounting and an endowed professorship through the McNeese Foundation. Previously, the Richards established the Mary Jean Turvey Richard Nursing Scholarship and they have also left a substantial gift to the university in their will.

The Donna Guzman Richard Accounting Scholarship and the Oliver G. Richard, III, Innovative Engineering Professorship were established as part of the McNeese Foundation’s 75 for 75 Anniversary Campaign. The goal of this campaign was to increase the foundation’s assets to $75 million during the recent 75th anniversary celebration of McNeese and this historic milestone was reached. Rick served as the chair of the 75 for 75 Campaign, which raised over $16 million in private support funds.

“Throughout the 75th Anniversary Capital Campaign, Rick generously donated the use of his facilities - including the Historic Calcasieu Marine National Bank and the Cash and Carry Building – for events sponsored by the McNeese Foundation in connection with major fundraising events,” said Williams. “The association of his name with the campaign caused a number of major donors to come forward with sizable gifts.”

McNeese conferred an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree to Rick at spring commencement in May for his contributions to both the campaign and to the university.
