Work-Study and Internship Opportunities:

History majors at McNeese have the opportunity to participate in internships at the Frazar Memorial Library archives or at local museums and galleries. A work-study program on campus also allows history majors to get hands-on experience teaching by tutoring their fellow university students in history.

Professional Networking Opportunities:

History majors are encouraged to join Phi Alpha Theta, an honor society that promotes the study of history by encouraging research, publication and the free exchange of ideas among historians, students and teachers. Students in Phi Alpha Theta have the chance to present academic research papers at the Louisiana Historical Association’s annual conference and may be eligible for scholarships and awards.

Excellence With a Personal Touch:

With small class sizes, students receive one-on-one attention from faculty, whose specialties encompass a broad range of areas, including Louisiana commercial and economic history, southern women’s history, the American Civil War, the Haitian revolution and  early 20th century English history.

Practical Research:

As a student in the history bachelor’s degree program, you’ll have the opportunity to dive deep into a specific aspect of history that interests you.
