Title: "Summer of the Periodical Cicada"
Mixed media on panel

(July 18, 2014) Lisa Reinauer, professor of art from the McNeese State University Department of Visual Arts, will be featured in a solo exhibition - "Summer of the Periodical Cicada" - from Aug. 1-Sept. 11 at the Art Associates Gallery located in the Central School Art and Humanities Center in Lake Charles.

An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 1 in the Art Associates Gallery, located on the second floor of Central School at 809 Kirby St. The title of her exhibit is based on one of the works on display.

The exhibit will include Reinauer's most recent series of paintings and reflects the artist's continued interest in ritual, myth, meditation and their connections to image making. Reinauer is the recipient of the 2014 Katherine Krause Blake Professorship awarded through the McNeese Foundation.

"With these diptychs and triptychs, I combine various subjects explored in earlier works, including the intimate still life and the contemplative mandala," Reinauer said. "The earliest artists made no distinction between image-making, ritual and symbol - the immediate and the eternal - object and act."

The Art Associates Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
