(February 17, 2017) The Department of Visual Arts will host a public reception for the opening of the Spring Juried Student Show from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Abercrombie Gallery located in the Shearman Fine Arts Center.

Eighty-eight student works from over 200 entries were selected by juror Christopher Stewart, associate professor of art and department chair for the visual and performing arts department at Angela State University in San Angelo, Texas. The exhibition will feature printmaking, ceramics, painting, drawing, foundations design, photography, graphic arts and mixed media. The exhibition will be on display through April 7.

Students featured in the show include: Kennedy Sampey, Berwick; Gabriella Trahan, Church Point; Sydney Thomas, Kinder; Alex Pate, Lafayette; Collin Adams, Madison Augustine, Stefan Borssen, Matthew Calero, Chance DeVille, Amanda Donaldson, Lacee Fontenot, Katy Geymann, Alyce Gilmore, Kathryn Godsey, Maegan Gonzales, Taylor Hickey, Katelyn Hoffpauir, Linda Rae-Leigh Johnson, Ariel Jueschke, Bipesh Koirela, Kelly Lavergne, Eternity Lewis, Morgan Martel, Cambridge P.J. Matthews, Alicia Rideaux, Lamis Saqer, Sajeela Siddiq, Alexandra Spears, Jessica Theresia, Esther Thompson, Merele Trares, Camille Vizena and Justina Wolford, Lake Charles; Meredith Carson, Port Neches, Texas; Ronald Gibson, Sandra Lewis, Stacy Lyons, Kinjal Patel, Caitlin Rogers and Rob Younger, Sulphur; Shelby Roberie, Welsh; and Elise Ange and Lacy Ewing, Westlake.

At the reception, Stewart will select one merit award winner in ceramics, drawing, foundations design, graphic arts, mixed media, painting, photography and printmaking.
