Several University departments have partenered to host a campus-wide Alcohol Awareness Week. These departments include: University Services, Unversity Events, Counseling Center, Student Union & Activities, Public Relations, Athletics, and Housing. The purpose of the week is to promote the University's committment to ensuring that McNeese students are properly instructed about how to minimize risks associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Monday, March 17 (all day) - Informational Sign Campaign
Mainly in the Quad area of campus, multiple yard signs will be posted containing inspirational messages related to being responsible when in the presence of or when consuming alcoholic beverages.
Tuesday, March 18 (5pm - 7pm) - "Mocktails" Party
The McNeese Housing Office will host a "Mocktails" party in the Housing Clubhouse to show that a fun and exciting environment can be created when non-alcoholic beverages are served.
Wednesday, March 19 (10am - 1pm) - Alcohol Awareness Fair
The McNeese Counseling Center will host a table display setup in the Student Union including information regarding alcohol awareness. Students will be encouraged to stop by the table to write their own alcohol awareness pledge using the University's custom Alcohol Awareness Week logo. Photos will be taken of students with their pledges in hand and then posted on the University's Facebook or Twitter pages.
Thursday, March 20 (two sessions: 2:30pm and 7pm) - "Living Proof" with guest speaker: Sarah Panzau
Renowned speaker Sarah Panzau, a survivor of a devastating car accident follow irresponsible use of alcoholic beverages, will provide an inspiring and motivatng keynote address to McNeese students. She doesn't speak from a podium. Instead, she makes a lasting impression by walking among the students donning athletic wear, so her scars help tell the story of her poor shoices. Her presentation will take place in Shearman Fine Arts Theater. This program is sponsored by Southwest Beverage Company of Louisiana. To promote the event, earlier in the day between 10am - 1pm, Greek Life students will be distributing informative information about the presentation in the Student Union as a part of their Greek Week activities (which coincide with the University's Alcohol Awareness Week). Student alcohol awareness pledges will continue to be received.
Friday, March 21 (11am - 1pm) - Alcohol-Free Picnic
Multiple campus ministry leaders will host an alcohol-fee picnic in the quad with food and festivities free to McNeese students.
