CITO Update
Mike Graham told the committee he is officially resigning his position as CITO on
April 25th. He introduced Dennis Stutes as the Interim CITO. Mike suggested giving Dennis a week or so before voting on anything so he can review everything and be able to give some input at the next meeting.
Mike thanked the TASC committee, and all members, by proxy. He has enjoyed working with everyone.
Mike introduced Bobby McLean as the new CoTASCO. He suggested the committee walk over to see the print management system at the end of the meeting. It is tentatively planned for testing in the summer to implement in the fall semester.
Old Business
Mike stated about 2 or 3 year ago, Dr. Fetter asked the committee (at that time) to provide a mobile wireless laptop cart with 25 laptops. Initially, his request was specifically to stay on campus. Since then, there is a change in the request to make it available on the internet. Mike and Chad both agreed that it is not a problem technically, it can be done. However, Mike said TASC should not pay for it.
Clayton Moreau motioned to allow putting network on the internet. Tim Rye seconded. The committee voted to approve and motion carries.
Dr. Kirtisis gave a short presentation on the Engineering Big Ticket Proposal for a Model
Chemical Pilot Plant to be built in ETL 105. Dr. Kiritsis said the goal is to 1) reproduce in the laboratory the major functions that engineers and technicians perform in local industry and 2) involve mechanical, electrical, civil engineering students and instrumentation, electronics engineering technology students in ways that mimic their involvement in real life chemical plants. This project also involves collaboration with Environmental Science. Dr. Kirtisis introduced Dr. Frank Phillips (Biological and Envr Science) to explain the importance of the collaboration and the type of equipment (for environmental purposes) that would be used. Dr. Kiritsis said the entire Model Chemical Pilot Plant will cost about $2 million dollars and they are asking the TASC Committee for $500,000 with the additional funding coming from other sources including donors. Dr. Kiritsis and Dr. Phillips answered questions from the committee.
Morgan Verrette moved to extend the meeting after 3:00pm. Tim Rye seconded.
The committee voted to approve and motion carries.
Other Depatments:
Bookstore - Mike said Chad Thibodeaux did some research and suggested a Mac Mini would work and cost would be the same. This would address the space issue.
University Police – Mike said the committee had a problem with the original proposal because they did not think it was student centered. The University Police have come up with a new request for mobile radios for the committee to review.
Mike suggested the committee not make a decision yet, but give Dennis a week to review.
Library – has turned in a proposal. This is the only one that has come in after the deadline.
Tim Rye motioned to table everything until the next meeting. Morgan Verrette seconded. The committee voted to approve and motion carries.
Dr. Furman asked how much does TASC have for the big ticket items. Mike said
Dennis will report at next Friday’s meeting.
New Business
Morgan Verrettee informed the committee she was approached by the Dean of Student Services about the dial-up internet in Pine Haven. Presently, the dial-up internet is the only option that Pine-Haven residents have for internet possibly affecting 67 students. The Dean asked the committee to reconsider funding the internet service thru June or July, at which time the university could give students other options and fund it from there. Mike told the committee if they decide to fund the dial-up thru June or July, it will have to be paid out of the TASC budget. Mike also said the committee could talk to Dennis Stutes and ask him to go to Structure X to see if they would consider shrinking the number of lines.
