Old Business
The following TASC proposals were discussed:

College-of-Education ($49,379.88) portable technologies for a) off-campus data collection in clinical settings and b) off-campus student presentations; classroom technology for a) enhancements to facilitate innovative instructions and b) infrastructure enhancements to improve student Internet access. – Dean Wayne Fetter was present and answered questions from the TASC committee.  Dr. Fetter stated his department has established sign out procedures for issuing equipment and said there is a secured room within each office to house equipment.  Also the timeframe for having the equipment checked-out will depend on the project and the situation.  PDAs are requested due to certain programs requiring utilizing this type of equipment in addition to using the Table PCs.  The handy-cam and other digital camcorder will enable documenting field experiences for a variety of programs.  Dr. Fetter added we are moving to a technology based instruction whereby we are evolving into total digital portfolios in the near future.
Mike Graham thanked Dr. Fetter for his time.

VART: ($26,150.00) Graphic Design Lab SFA 121 (to be applied to overall cost of the update of hardware/software/printers)
Dean Ray Miles was present and answered a question concerning the MSU Band request; i.e… the request on the priority list is different than the request on the separate MSU Band proposal.  Dr. Miles stated he took each request from his college and created a priority list.  The priority list is his suggestion on how to expend the $50,000 for the college, but if the priority list is not used, then each separate proposal is to be considered.  The committee had no questions concerning Mass Comm and VART requests.
Mike thanked Dr. Miles for his time.

Other Departments
University Police: ($1,650.00) 2 Distracted & impaired driving kits.
Cinnamon Salvador was present to explain where and how the requested equipment would be used.  Chief Salvador explained the units would be used in the fall and spring during safety week.   Students could come and participate in playing the ‘Distract-a-Match’ game that simulates alcohol impairment and or distracted driving.  Chief Salvador said this is part of a larger project that we are working on, which includes a sub-grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to completely fund a Sydney cart.  This ‘go-cart’ will be set up for students to drive-thru an obstacle course.  The first drive-thru would be a normal drive.  Afterward the controls would be switched to ‘impaired mode’ and the student would again drive-thru the course ‘impaired’.  Chief Salvador stated the Distract-a-Match game would be the beginning of this project.  She said this ‘game’ as well as the ‘go-cart’ would be offered and available to any student organization/group that would ask the police dept to come out and set up.
Mike Graham thanked Chief Cinnamon Salvador for her time.

Student Union Board:

  1. ($1,571.00) Laptop Bundle #1 ---committee discussed.
  2. ($43,346.14) Technology advancement for the Holbrook Student Union to create multiple high tech meeting rooms and common areas.

Dr. Chris Thomas and Kedrick Nicholas were present to answer questions from the TASC committee.  Kedrick Nicholas explained…our request is to upgrade technology in the meeting rooms and common areas.  He stated that at present McNeese is comparable to other colleges with the Axis tv system, but most schools are in the process of upgrading those systems.  He said, primarily, we would like to improve our meeting rooms with tv screens on the wall, with vga input for a computer and sound on the tvs.   This is much cheaper than a projector, projector screen and speakers.  Our proposal covers everything we would like to acquire, and we would definitely accept the equipment in phases.  Dr. Thomas noted, in the 3yrs that he has been here, the number of student organizations have grown from 50 to 109.  Consequently, the meeting rooms have been constantly booked.  Dr. Thomas said with the technical expertise of Kedrick, we are thinking about the maximum possibilities of improvement.  Security cameras would come in at the end of the improvement as a way of protection, furthermore the meeting rooms are currently being locked down when not in use.  Kedrick added the security is just another phase of improvement and wasn’t originally part of the proposal.
Mike Graham thanked Dr. Thomas and Kedrick Nicholas for their time.

Regarding the question concerning the ‘Medical’ item listed on the Internal Audit Report, Mike stated it represents the Nursing proposal for the prior fiscal year.

Mike told the committee he received a late proposal from the International Student Office and Welcome Center.  He asked the committee what they wanted to do.  Kyle Anderson motioned to send an email to notify that the committee would like to think about whether or not they will accept the proposal.  Tim Rye seconded.  The committee voted to approve and motion carries.
