Director of Campus Life, Engagement, & Student Retention - Mr. Kedrick Nicholas, M.S.

Bio
"Dean Ked" is originally from New Orleans, LA, but has been a resident of Lake Charles since August 2000, when he first attended McNeese State University as a scholarship football player. During his 5 years of athletics Kedrick earned a Bachelor of General Studies then continued onto graduate school at McNeese State. As a graduate student, Kedrick served as a Graduate Assistant for the Office of Student Services and President of the Student Union Board for two consecutive years. After receiving a Master of Science in Instructional Technology in May of 2007, Kedrick became a full-time employee in the Office of Financial Aid before soon transferring back to the Student Services Department as Student Activities Coordinator. In the fall of 2011, Kedrick was promoted to Assistant Dean of Student Services, followed by a reorganization that caused a minor adjustment of his title to Director of Campus Life & Engagement.  In December of 2016, Student Retention was added to his title following his development of the C.A.R.E. Mentorship Program.

Job Duties
Mr. Nicholas oversees several programs and initiatives that directly impact the student learning and co-curricular experience.  He supervises several professional staff members, graduate assistants, and student workers that are employed within the department.  He is the director of the Student Union & Activities Office, responsible for the oversight of day to day management and operations in the Holbrook Student Union facility.   He oversees all major student life initiatives including Student Organizations, Greek Life, multicultural programs, leadership programs, Student Union Board, and Student Union & Activities engagement programs. Recently, he developed the C.A.R.E. Mentorship Program which serves as a retention and engagement mechanism for McNeese students. Mr. Nicholas is the technology administrator for the University Services division and assists with other operations of the division such as student discipline advocacy, summer camps, campus housing, and campus dining.  It is also his responsibility to collaborate with peer professionals regarding student life initiatives and developments at comparable colleges/universities.  He also serves on several University committees.

Student Activities Coordinator - Ms. Erica Medina, M.S.



Erica Medina

Bio
Erica was born and raised in Loraine, a small west Texas town. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at McMurry University in Abilene, TX.  As an undergraduate student, Erica was the Campus Activities Board president, Diversity Affairs Council founding president, and a student orientation co-director, which led to her decision of pursuing a career in Higher Education.  Prior to her arrival at McNeese State University, Erica received her Master of Science degree in Higher Post-secondary Education at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. During her time at Syracuse, Erica served as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Student Activities. She is most excited about working with students to execute the most memorable events! 

Job Duties
Erica serves as the primary advisor to the Student Life Coalition, the flagship programming board for McNeese State University.  She is also the advisor to the Panhellenic Council.  In her role as Student Activities Coordinator, Erica is responsible for the supervision of programs and activities that connect students to the University and provide opportunities for leadership, cultural, and professional development.  Erica also supervises elements of Greek Life and student organization operations.

Multicultural Engagement Coordinator - Mr. Ryan Preatto, M.S.



Ryan Preatto
Bio
Ryan was born and raised in New Orleans, LA, and relocated to Lake Charles in 2008. While in New Orleans, he received an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Delgado Community College before transferring to McNeese State University. Ryan received his Bachelors of Science in Marketing in 2012 and was hired as the Admissions Counselor for Underrepresented Populations after matriculating. He is currently completing his Masters of Science in Criminal Justice. Ryan is passionate about working with students and helping them navigate through their college career. 


Job Duties
Ryan is responsible for coordinating multicultural programs and cultural development opportunities for the student community.   He coordinates the C.A.R.E. Mentorship Program, which connects students with faculty/staff members to build relationships and increase the connection to the University. Ryan assists in collecting data, tracking statistics and retention rates, and drafting reports relative to the impact of engagement on underrepresented populations.  In addition, Ryan serves as a resource for student organizations that host culturally diverse programs and activities, and student organizations that primarily represent minority students. He Provide guidance and assistance to these groups in planning, organizing, and delivering events and activities that enhance the student experience and strengthen the University’s recruitment and retention objectives.  Ryan is the primary advisor to the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the coordinator of the Black Male Initiative Program Series.

Greek Life Coordinator - Ms. Shaleeah Smith, M.A.



Shaleeah Smith

Bio
Shaleeah was born and raised in Damascus, MD, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Shaleeah attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in French. As an undergrad, she was involved with her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, the college Panhellenic Council, and Student Activities Council. Shaleeah received her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from the University of Nevada, Reno. While at UNR, she served as the graduate intern for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. 

Job Duties
Shaleeah serves as the University’s official Greek life advisor overseeing operations of internal governing boards and monitoring compliance with University, state, and federal mandates relative to fraternities and sororities.  She provides training, guidance, and assistance to University sanctioned Greek fraternities, sororities, and Greek letter honor societies in planning, organizing, and delivering events and activities that enhance the student experience and strengthen the University’s recruitment and retention objectives.  Shaleeah also coordinates Greek organization recruiting, registration, workshops, and other developmental programming for the Greek Life community.  She is also responsible for creating and implementing ongoing assessments for Greek Life activities, events, and programs, while assisting in collection of data, tracking statistics and retention rates, and drafting reports relative to the impact of Greek Life at McNeese State University.

Administrative Assistant  - Mrs. Christol Daniels



Christol Daniels
Bio
Christol Daniels is a native of Opelousas, LA and attended Texas Southern University. She comes to the Student Union & Activities from McNeese Women's Athletics where she was the Administrative Assistant to Softball, Soccer, Tennis and Women's Basketball. Mrs. Daniels has been with the university for several years and enjoys working with college students who are just embarking on life's journey.  She supports McNeese by being a positive role model, confidant, and adviser to those in her care.

Job Duties
Mrs. Daniels is responsible for providing administrative support to the the Student Union & Activities Office. She also coordinates the use of Holbrook Student Union facilities and equipment for meetings, programs, banquets, classes, concerts, summer camp programs and other functions.  Mrs. Daniels manages financial records for the 10+ accounts included within the Student Union & Activities Office.
