Criminal Justice
The multidisciplinary criminal justice curriculum is designed to familiarize students
with the complex nature of the American criminal justice system. The program offers a
broad mix of courses that prepare students for academic and professional success in the
context of a strong liberal arts education. An integral component of the criminal justice
program at McNeese is experiential learning. For example, students have the opportunity to
complete up to three different internships at a social science related agency.
The liberal arts orientation of the program prepares students for law school, graduate level
work in criminology and criminal justice, and for careers at the local, state, and federal
levels in law enforcement, corrections, and court-related agencies. Furthermore, adult learners
now have the ability to complete their CJUS degrees online and in an accelerated format (see
Matthew Welsh, Coordinator of Adult Learning and Retention, (337) 562-4220). The criminal
justice faculty include: Gregory Clark (Coordinator), David Armstrong, Carol Campbell, Billy
Turner (SOSC Department Head), David Green (visiting lecturer), and Vi Kohrs (visiting lecturer).
