Each year, McNeese awards over $5 million in scholarships to students with outstanding academic qualifications, according to Ralynn Castete, director of scholarships and testing at McNeese. These scholarships are awarded based upon the students' academic abilities as evidenced by standardized test scores, previous academic courses, grade point average and class standing.
"High school seniors should begin the application procedure now for academic scholarships to McNeese," said Castete.
The scholarship application can be downloaded from the McNeese website at www.mcneese.edu/scholarships or may be obtained from the high school guidance counselor. Students must complete the application by the specified deadline, apply for admission to the university and have their ACT/SAT test scores forwarded to McNeese directly from the testing company.
Castete said the McNeese Honors College offers students an opportunity to learn within an inspiring and supportive academic community. Students with an ACT composite score of 27 or higher are eligible to apply for participation. The application is available on the McNeese website at www.mcneese.edu.
Castete said students wishing to qualify for the TOPS Scholarship Program must have a minimum ACT score of 20, complete the 17.5 units of required core courses and a 2.50 high school grade point average on these core courses. More information on TOPS may be found at the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance website at www.osfa.la.gov .
McNeese offers scholarships in many other areas as well, including band, vocal performance, theatre, debate, yearbook, campus newspaper, visual arts, rodeo, cheerleading, dance team and athletics. Castete said students are encouraged to visit the McNeese website or contact the individual departments for additional information on scholarship opportunities and application procedures.
