Purpose:
To provide basic medical/first aid services for individuals requiring immediate assessment and/or assistance while on McNeese State University campus. The Emergency Medical System (EMS) will be activated in all situations. -
Responsibility:
Any person(s) recognizing a medical emergency is responsible to activate EMS by contacting University Police. -
Guidelines:
- Recognize medical emergencies in individuals
- Unusual appearance or behavior such as:
- Difficulty breathing
- Clutching chest or throat
- Slurred, confused, hesitant speech
- Unexplained confusion or drowsiness
- Unusual skin color
- Sweating for no apparent reason
- Unusual noises
- Screams, yells, moans, or calls for help
- Sudden loud voices
- Unusual sights
- Spilled medicine container
- Obvious bleeding
- Trauma
- Seizures
- Unusual appearance or behavior such as:
- Response
- Determine that an actual medical emergency exists
- Contact University Police
- University Police will contact EMS personal to respond, if needed.
- Monitor victim until assistance arrives.
- Provide medical care only if trained to do so.
- Continue care until EMS arrives on scene.
- Recognize medical emergencies in individuals
