Policy for Review of Complaints
The Policy for Review of Complaints is a university policy intended to provide information and procedures to students, employees, and others who believe a significant violation of a standard, policy, or procedure has occurred and would, therefore like to file a complaint with the university concerning the violation. The policy requires that a complaint be written and signed and contain certain content information and supporting documentation to allow for the complaint to be addressed thoroughly and within a reasonable time. The Policy for Review of Complaints also requires that the university acknowledge receipt of a written complaint, that the university review a written complaint, and that the university notify the complainant of the results of its review within a specified amount of time. The Policy for Review of Complaints is available on McNeese's institutional policy website or in the Faculty/Staff Handbook.
Student Code of Conduct
The Student Code of Conduct defines a complaint as "A written or oral statement of the essential facts constituting a violation of a University regulation or rule." The Code outlines the chain of command that must be followed when appealing a sanction imposed by the Dean or Discipline Committee:
Student Discipline Committee
University President
Board of Supervisors of ULS System *
*(only in cases of a sanction of suspension for one or more years or dismissal from the university)
The appeal procedure requires a student to file a written notice informing the appropriate party of the specific sanction(s) to be appealed within a prescribed time frame.
Appeal of Dean’s sanction may be sent by regular or certified mail within five class days of the imposition of the sanction to:
Chairperson, Student Discipline Committee

The Limitation of Appeals for student complaints must relate to matters pertaining to student conduct. Grievances not related to student conduct (grades, University employee performance grievances, general complaints) must be handled through the appropriate complaint channel which at McNeese is the Policy for Review of Complaints.
An archive of written complaints filed with the university and resolution of these complaints is maintained in the McNeese State University Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
