Requirement

The majority of credits toward a graduate or a post-baccalaureate professional degree is earned through the institution awarding the degree. In the case of graduate and post-baccalaureate professional degree programs offered through joint, cooperative, or consortia arrangements, the student earns a majority of credits from the participating institutions. (See Commission policy "The Transfer or Transcripting of Academic Credit")

Narrative

McNeese State University is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.6.3.

The University Catalog states that graduate students may transfer a maximum of one-third of the credit hours required for the degree from another accredited college or university, as long as certain criteria have been met. Guidelines for accepting transfer of credit are published as follows in the University Catalog:

    1. Upon the recommendation of the major professor and department head and with the approval of the Dean of Graduate School, a student may, in individual cases, transfer a maximum of one-third of the credit hours required for the degree from another accredited college or university to McNeese provided that:

    a. The grade in each course accepted is “B” or better.

    b. Each course is comparable to a required course on the degree program at McNeese State University.

    c. The credit has been earned within six calendar years from the date the student is first enrolled in the program.

    2. No more than six credit hours of core courses may be transferred into the MBA Program.

    3. Credits earned through a Louisiana multi-purpose resident center, as designated by the Board of Regents, may be considered for transfer if the student has been accepted in a

degree program and has earned a minimum of 12 hours toward the degree. Petition for this credit is made to the Dean of Graduate School.

    4. Correspondence or extension courses taken for graduate credit may not be used to fulfill graduation requirements in any degree program offered by Graduate School.

    5. Transfer credit will not reduce the minimum residence requirements.

    6. A student shall make application on the proper form for transfer of credit. (219)

In all departments which offer graduate degrees, any transfer of credit is evaluated by the department head to determine whether or not the course comparable to a course in the department. Final approval of transfer credit rests with the Dean of the Graduate School.

Intercollegiate Consortium for a Master of Science in Nursing

The McNeese College of Nursing belongs to the Intercollegiate Consortium for a Master of Science in Nursing (ICMSN), a cooperative effort between McNeese State University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Southern University and A&M College-Baton Rouge, and Southeastern Louisiana University. Courses taken as a part of this consortium agreement are listed as courses offered through the home institution. McNeese faculty award grades for courses delivered through the consortium; credits earned through this arrangement are not considered transfer credits.
