Narrative
McNeese State University is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.4.4.
McNeese State University requires that transfer students meet certain admission requirements as specified in the Catalog. McNeese State University's mission statement explains that, "McNeese State University, a selective admissions institution, provides education, research, and service that support our core values of academic excellence, student success, fiscal responsibility, and university-community alliances." To achieve this mission, McNeese must ensure that credentials or credits being transferred are comparable to the equivalent coursework at McNeese. Therefore, these credits must be evaluated, awarded, and accepted by using an established evaluation process with course offering and grading policies. Because these various credits go through a thorough evaluation and acceptance process, McNeese can assume responsibility for the academic quality of any course work or credit recorded on its institutional transcripts.
The Office of Admissions reviews and awards credit for acceptable courses. However, applicability of transfer credit to the student's McNeese degree program is determined by the student's academic department. As part of the evaluation process for transfer credit, the institution where the credit was earned is checked for regional accreditation or recognition. The State of Louisiana Board of Regents developed the Statewide Transfer Guide and Articulation System for general education courses. This provides a matrix of General Education college-credit courses which are transferable between and among most of Louisiana's public colleges and universities. For institutions outside Louisiana, the McNeese catalog states:
"To determine accreditation for U.S. schools, McNeese utilizes the publication Transfer Credit Practices of Designated Educational Institutions. For schools outside the United States, publications from the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and NAFSA: Association of International Educators are utilized. If institutions are not regionally accredited, consideration is given to the transfer credit acceptance recommendations of selected institutions or state educational agencies in the states in which the institutions are located." (p42)
McNeese may award credit through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB), correspondence, extension work, and other non-traditional work as established in the catalog (52-53). McNeese does not award credit for experiential learning or professional certificates.
McNeese State University disseminates these policies in both the print and online versions of the catalog The Office of Admissions also publishes this information on its website.
