McNeese Cowgirls Win Rodeo Competition

(March 12, 2014) The McNeese State University women's rodeo team finished in first place at the Texas A&M at Kingsville rodeo competition. The men's team took seventh place.
           
Chelsea Carroll, Opelousas, won the All-around Cowgirl title.
           
Carroll took first place in the goat tying competition, while Kirsten Smith, St. Francisville, tied for sixth place.
           
In the ladies breakaway roping event, Carroll finished in fourth place, while Jessica Bates, Norco, Calif., finished in fifth place.
           
In barrel racing, Stephanie Mosley, Bolton, Miss., tied for fifth place, while  Kayla Ratliff, Live Oak, Fla., finished in eighth place.
           
Jack Frey, Crawfordsville, Ind., finished in second place in the bull riding event.
           
Chad Rutherford, Itasca, Texas, finished third in bareback riding and Jack Kitaif, Tylertown, Miss., finished in seventh place.
           
In steer wrestling, Josh Denison, Iowa, tied for third, while Benjamin Cox, Hot Springs, Ark., finished in fifth place.           
           
Billy Morian, Jasper, Texas, finished in fifth place in the saddle bronc riding event.
           
Jonathan Torres, Ocala, Fla., finished in fourth place in team roping.
           
The next rodeo competition for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is March 21-22 at Texas A&M University in College Station.

According to McNeese Rodeo Coach Justin Browning, the women's rodeo team remains in first place in regional standings, while the men's team remains in second place.
