Graduation

Filing Application for Degree

A student who plans to complete graduation requirements at the end of the current semester should file an Application for Degree for each degree he/she is to receive with his/her academic department during the first week of classes. An application may be used only for the current graduation ceremony for which a candidate is applying to graduate. If a candidate does not graduate during the enrollment period for which applied, a new application must be submitted.

Transfer Courses

If a student is transferring hours from another university in order to complete degree requirements at McNeese, the grade(s) from the other university must be received in the McNeese Office of the Registrar no later than 1:00 p.m. on the Thursday before commencement. Questions may be directed to 337-475-5157.

Grad Fest

Grad Fest is usually held in April and November in Parra Ballroom. At Grad Fest, a degree candidate receives his/her cap and gown, verifies graduation information, and can pose for a photograph. Refer to the published class schedule for the specific date of Grad Fest.

Rehearsal

Commencement rehearsal is scheduled at approximately 6:30 p.m. on the Friday evening before the actual commencement ceremony at the Burton Coliseum. A seating roster will be posted and instructions distributed at the facility. Upon arrival, please sit in your assigned seat immediately.

Commencement

Commencement is held on the Saturday after final exams at 10:00 a.m. in the Burton Coliseum. Commencement is held only at the end of the fall and spring semesters; summer degree candidates participate in the fall commencement. Refer to the University catalog to determine the specific date for a given commencement.

Graduating In Absentia

Attendance at Commencement is required. Only candidates who have requested and received a waiver of this requirement from the Dean of Student Services will have their degree conferred in absentia. Appropriate reasons for requesting a waiver might include employment obligations, travel restrictions, health concerns, etc. A candidate who wishes to request a waiver and graduate in absentia must do so online. If approved, the candidate will be notified by e-mail. In absentia diplomas are mailed by certified mail the week after commencement.
