Summer employment for 9 month faculty is not guaranteed nor are written letters of appointment given for the Summer session. Summer employment is based primarily on need as reflected by realistic estimates of student enrollment, individual excellence of performance, and unique qualifications for courses to be taught.
In the preparation of the Summer schedule, the department head will consult the faculty of that department to determine which faculty desire Summer employment, which courses should be offered, and who should teach each course.
Faculty Summer appointments are made contingent upon course enrollment and the faculty member’s ability to fulfill duties for teaching and office hours.
Faculty who become ill prior to the start of the Summer session, and who are not able to recover sufficiently to teach the courses may not use sick leave for the duration of the session.
