Thee Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, includes various provisions
for protection and privacy of students and parents. Among
these provisions is the requirement that educational
institutions permit currently enrolled students to restrict
the release of those items designated as “directory
information.”
MSU defines as directory information the following facts about
a student: name, address, and telephone number; e-mail
address; major field of study and classification; class
schedule; date and place of birth; faculty adviser; high
school attended and date of graduation; photograph; religious
preference; veteran's status; participation in officially
recognized activities and sports; weight and height of members
of athletic teams; dates of attendance; degrees, awards, and
honors received; and previous educational institution most
recently attended.
Please be aware that students' names, classifications, and
colleges are listed on the Internet by MSU. If you wish to
request that this information not be released, listed on the
Internet, or in the MSU Directory, you need to submit a
“Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information Form”
to the Registrar's Office. This form must be completed and
returned to the
Registrar¹s Office no later than the second week of classes
during the fall semester.
Once requested, this restriction will remain in effect as long
as you are continuously enrolled until you request that it be
removed.
