McNeese State University Police
“Silent Witness Program”
Established 7-3-07
The McNeese University “Silent Witness” Program was established in order to encourage students and faculty to report suspicious behavior or circumstances observed on campus. Some individuals are reluctant to become involved in police matters or sometimes feel what they have witnessed does not rise to the level of a criminal matter.
As we have all seen in recent years, these activities are sometimes indicative of future criminal behavior. Our ultimate goal is to assist the person in receiving help with their problems so they do not commit acts of violence on campus.
Examples of circumstances or behaviors that should be reported to University Police would include the following:
- Any criminal behavior
- Any perceived threat of violence against themselves or others
- Knowledge of weapons possession on campus
- Unsafe behavior
Identifying information regarding the reporting person is not mandatory but is requested. University Police will follow up on all information received and will make every attempt to keep the “reporter’s” identity confidential.
This program is not designed to report emergencies, or a crime in progress. Please call 911 (111 on campus) if you need emergency assistance.
