McNeese State University's Department of Performing Arts will host the annual meeting of the American Musicological Society Southern chapter Friday-Saturday, Feb. 22-23.
More than 40 faculty and students from universities in Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana will attend the meeting. Fifteen lectures on a variety of topics in music history and research will be presented by music historians during this two-day event.
Registration takes place at 8 a.m. Friday in the Shearman Fine Arts Annex.
Lectures begin at 9 a.m. each day in the Shearman Fine Arts Performing Arts Theatre and all are open to the public for a one-time fee of $10.
McNeese assistant professor of music, Dr. Bryan Proksch, will present a paper on Joseph Haydn and Donald Tovey on Friday morning and will chair the lecture presentations on Places, Spaces and Sources on Saturday morning.
