McNeese Chamber Singers Concert Set

McNeese Chamber Singers Concert Set

The McNeese State University Department of Performing Arts will present the McNeese Chamber Singers in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Shearman Fine Arts Performing Arts Theatre.

The Chamber Singers are under the direction of Darryl Jones, director of choral activities at McNeese, and are accompanied by Lina Morita on piano.

The program will include: "Mass in G" by Franz Schubert, featuring soloists Kathleen Evans, Danielle Heffer, Brandon LaFleur, April Stone, Curry Burton, Carolyn Handy and Kenneth Espree; two Renaissance part-songs: a French chanson, "Il est bel et bon," by Passareau, and an Italian madrigal, "Il bianco e dolce cigno," by Arcadelt; a contemporary part-song, "Give Me Your Stars to Hold," based on a Sara Teasdale poem with music composed by Richard Waters; and "Take Me to the Water" by Rollo Dilworth, which combines two traditional African-American spirituals "Down by the Riverside" and "Wade in the Water."

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America, the Chamber Singers will also perform two King's Singers arrangements of Lennon and McCartney songs "Blackbird" and "Can't Buy Me Love."
