
William G. Rose
Associate Professor of Music (Low Brass), Assistant Dept. Head, Coordinator of Technology
William G. Rose is Associate Professor of Music (Low Brass), Assistant Dept. Head and Coordinator of Technology for the Department of Performing Arts at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. He teaches the low brass studio, music theory, conducts the brass choir, and serves as Musical Director for music theater productions. He holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Michigan State University. He holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Michigan State University; his principal teachers have included Leonhard Rose, Dr. Gerald Grose, Donald Haack, Curtis Olson and Philip Sinder. He is former principal trombone/euphonium with the Milwaukee Civic Orchestra, and has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Acadiana Symphony, Chorale Acadiene , the Greater Lansing Symphony and the Detroit Chamber Winds, as well as others. He has performed with many distinguished musicians including Kevin Clark, Les Elgart, Slide Hampton, and Skitch Henderson. Currently, he serves as principal trombonist with the Lake Charles Symphony (LA) and the Rapides Symphony (Alexandria, LA).
As a choral director, he has served as Music Director at St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church in Lake Charles since 1993. As a published composer and arranger, his catalog includes works and publications for band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, choir, handbells, brass and trombone ensembles. His publishers include Abingdon Press, Fred Bock, Gulf Wind Music Press, Kagarice Brass Publications, TAP Music, Treble C Music, GIA Music & Editions BIM. He is a member of BMI. As a church music clinician instrumental solo literature and instrumental arranging, he has appeared at Created to Praise 2004 in St. Louis., MO, and Glen Burnie, MD, as well as the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts 50th Anniversary Convocation in 2005, in San Francisco, CA.
Mr. Rose is a founding member of the LATEX Trombone Quartet, which has performed all over the United States, including at the International Trombone Festival, Eastern Trombone Workshop, New York Brass Conference & the Big XII Trombone Conference. Their self-titled CD LATEX Trombones was released in December, 2002. He also appears on Kevin Clark & The Jazz Revelation (2004) and Kevin Clark & the Jazz Revelation: 2nd Line – 2nd Chance (2005). Mr. Rose is a Yamaha Performing Artist, and performs on soprano, alto, tenor and bass trombones; euphonium and tuba.
