Department of Performing Arts
Welcome!
On behalf of McNeese State University and the Department of Performing Arts, welcome! We are committed to ensuring your success with individual attention, a variety of performance opportunities, and hands-on experience in your chosen field. While our faculty is recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally for their work as teachers, performers, and scholars, we are committed first to the art of teaching and the mentoring the students as they prepare for the demands of a twenty-first century artist.
Our department provides a wealth of performance opportunities ranging from small and large ensembles, dramatic productions, and individualized instruction. With our new fine arts facility, additional rehearsal space and a state-of-the-art theatre only enhances this training.
In order to be fully prepared for the multifaceted aspects of working as an artist and educator today, it is important that hands-on training be provided for all students and our faculty has worked tirelessly to ensure the quality of these experiences. Theatre majors are expected to take part in all aspects of a production, backstage and on-stage; music education majors gain teaching experience well before their senior year through service-learning opportunities in our instrumental method classes and through our National String Project Consortium site
; and in addition to the many performance opportunities we have for all students, experiences and collaboration with visiting artists of national reputation are provided.
As you consider the high quality of our programs, I also invite you to look carefully at the "Cost of Attendance" page. You will find that we offer a good value as well. When you combine our low cost of attendance with a service-award or scholarship from our department, then that cost becomes lower. Please go to our Music Scholarships page
for further information and an on-line, music scholarship application form.
Thank you for visiting with us. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me personally. I will be happy to speak with you.
