| How to Configure your Mac OS9.1 Dialup Connection |
| 1. Click on the Apple at the top left of the screen. In the listing that becomes available, move the
cursor over Applications. In the side menu move the cursor over Utilities and then over Assistants.
Click Internet Setup Assistant |
| 2. The Internet Setup Assistant (ISA) will ask you if you would like to use your Macintosh to use the
Internet, click on Yes. It will then ask, "Do you already have an Internet account" click Yes. |
| 3. An introduction will now appear. At the bottom right you will see a set of arrows pointing right and
left as well as the number of the step that you are currently on. Read the introductions and then
click on the arrow pointing right. |
| 4. At this point the ISA will ask you to type a name for this particular configuration. Type in
StructureX for the name of the configuration. Farther down the screen you will have a choice
between modem and network. Click on the circle beside modem if it is not yet selected by default.
Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen to advance to Step 3. |
| 5. On the Modem settings make sure your modem is listed at the top. The port will also be selected.
If either of these is incorrect, refer to the information given to you with the purchase of your Mac
before continuing and if necessary, call the proper support provider for your computer's hardware
(modem). After you have done so, choose tone dialing by clicking in the circle beside "Tone". Also
make sure that "Ignore dial tone" is not checked. |
| 6. Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen to advance to Step 4. At this
point, you will be prompted to enter the following information: Your McNeese dial-up number. (Note:
This is not your home phone number) The username and password you were assigned. (Note: All
information is case sensitive). Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen to
advance to Step 5. The only option in Step 5 should be set to No. |
| 7. Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen to advance to Step 6. The only
option in Step 6 of the ISA should be set to No. Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of
the screen to advance to Step 7. Step 7 consists of entering the DNS numbers for your connection.
They should be entered as follows: 208.229.28.10 (pres enter) - 198.6.1.1 (Note: ignore the hostname
section of this page). Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of your screen to
advance to Step 8. |
| 8. On the email address and password page, enter your email address
"username@mcneesemail.net". Next, enter your email password, this is the same as your dialup
password. Ignore the last option concerning a quoting character to be chosen |
| 9. Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen to advance to Step 9. Here you
will enter the email account name and the email server. The account name will be setup as the first
part of your email address. Below this the SMTP server name will be set to mail.mcneesemail.net |
| 10. Now click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of your screen to advance to Step 10. Type in
"news.structurex.net" for the News server entry request. Now click on the arrow at the bottom right
corner of the screen to advance to Step 11. On step 11, choose the No option
concerning whether or not you use a proxy server to connect. |
| 11. Now click the arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen to advance to Step 12. At this pint
you will want to click on Go Ahead to add the configuration. To dial after you have clicked Go
Ahead, make sure that Dial When Finished is selected. |
