Constitution of the MSU Sociology Club
We the members of the organization to be formally known as the MSU Sociology
Club do hereby make the following statements:
The purpose of the MSU Sociology Club is to unite those with a common interest in sociology and to facilitate the organization of community involvement, social interaction, and information about the opportunity in the field of sociology.
Article I
Organization Name
This organization shall be known as the McNeese State University Sociology Club or MSU Sociology Club.
Article II
Rules of Membership
Membership will be open to all students who are sociology graduate students,
sociology majors, sociology minors, and others interested in sociology. Members of the MSU Sociology Club will
adhere to all McNeese State University codes of conduct, rules and regulations.
Co-advisors may rescind membership from any student who violates university
policy or this group's purpose or constitution.
Article III
Meetings
The MSU Sociology Club will meet twice monthly during fall and spring semesters
on a day and time that is convenient for members and Co-advisors, but is set by
club officers. Officers will establish a regular schedule at the beginning of
each academic year. Officers may meet as
a group when a meeting is called by the President or a Co-advisor.
Article IV
Officers
The MSU Sociology Club will have a body of officers including a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and a Senator. Terms of office will be for one academic year without restriction on consecutive re-election. Officers must be enrolled students in good academic standing to be eligible to serve. The President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and Senator will be elected by majority vote of the membership. Officers may be removed by majority vote of the membership. Officers may be removed by majority vote of the membership or by the Co-advisors if they determine that an officer is in violation of university policies or this group's purpose or constitution. The Vice President will assume the presidency if the sitting president can no longer fill the office. A vacancy in the Vice Presidency, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, or Senator position will be filled by appointment from the President. The Co-advisors may appoint officers when normal procedures are unable to keep officers positions filled.
Article V
Faculty Co-advisors
The MSU Sociology Club will have 2 continuously serving Co-advisors who are faculty in the Department of Sociology. An advisor may be removed, and his or her position filled, by 2/3 vote of the membership and an agreement to serve from another faculty member. If an advisor steps down, the President may appoint another faculty member who agrees to serve as Co-advisor.
Article VI
Financial Plans
Section A: Membership Dues
The MSU Sociology Club shall not
collect any membership fees.
Section B: Collecting Funds
1. The treasurer shall take
steps to obtain funds for the MSU Sociology Club and its activities.
2. Funding for the MSU Sociology Club shall
come from sponsors, fundraising, and funds that may be allocated by the Student
Government Association.
Constitutional Amendments
This constitution may
be amended by majority vote of the members of the club and approval from the faculty
Co-advisors.
