History
Sigma
Alpha Iota
was founded June 12, 1903, at the University
School of Music, Ann Arbor Michigan.
Seven enthusiastic women: Elizabeth
Campbell, Frances
Caspari, Minnie
Davis, Lelia
Farlin, Nora
Crane Hunt, Georgina
Potts, and Mary
Storrs Anderson, pledged themselves to help each other with
sisterly affection, to stand for the highest possible musical
scholarship; for nobility, and relations among women in
the musical profession.
Incorporation papers under the laws of the State of Michigan were
signed December 15 of the same year.
Chapter History
Delta Epsilon Sorority was accepted by Sigma
Alpha Iota National Music Fraternity for Women,
and was chartered as the Beta
Chi Chapter on
February 20, 1955. The chapter pledges, including seventeen college
pledges and four alumnae pledges, were installed and initiated
by Mrs. Mildred Sale of Dallas, TX - National Executive Secretary,
and Mrs. Dorothy Hamilton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - National
Chaplain.
Traditional activities of the fraternity include a welcome reception
for freshman music students, a luncheon for Messiah soloists and
an annual spring banquet.
In the fall of 1966, Beta
Chi sponsored
a benefit recital, the proceeds of which were contributed to international
music fund. A violin was bought and fitted with a plaque inscibed
"In Memory of George R. Marshall."
Due to the growth of Mu province, the province was relocated to
include all chapters in Arkansas. Omega province was formed to
include all chapters in Louisiana and Mississippi.
In the Fall of 1990, Omega province was divided into Omega A and
B, Louisiana was divided into the north sector, Omega B, and the
southern sector, Omega A.

Mary Garrison, and Mrs. Goldie Higdon.
