22 women envisioned an organization dedicated to scholarship and community service. These ladies wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence, social welfare, and to provide public service. January 13, 1913, these women came together to found Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Howard University. Indeed, a true sisterhood and endeavor was pledged.

Today Delta Sigma Theta is a sisterhood of more than 180,000, predominately, black, college, educated women. The Sorority currently has over 800 chapters located in the United States, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Haiti, Liberia, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea.

Delta Sigma Theta is based on 5 major programs, and the Founders ideas of scholarship and service have truly withstood the test of time.
