Alpha Delta Pi must take a stance on pursuing the Information Age by integrating technology of all aspects into its' hierarchy. The World Wide Web is an extremely powerful medium allowing individuals, organizations, and corporations to make information available to anyone, anywhere in the world. News media such as television, magazines, and newspapers all cost a great deal of money to advertise. The World Wide Web costs very little, if not anything, and the audience you is much larger.

It is important to note that our web page will one way or another be linked by someone else. Internet search engines automatically do this, and it is important to remember that our chapter's website can easily become the initial representation for Alpha Delta Pi as a whole.

Alpha Delta Pi has adopted a set of standards called World Wide Web Policies to ensure that all mediums put forth by this chapter are maintained in the highest standards of the sorority. This chapter adheres to the guidelines below so that we may best represent our chapter and our sorority as a whole.

Section 1: Homepage Information

The starting page or "homepage" is by far the most important part of our website. The general look or feel of the page can make a difference in whether someone wants to continue viewing pages throughout your site. Large graphic images, and complex animations can take a while to load and the visitor's patience can run thin. We strive to keep our pages simple, but attract the users by using catchy graphics.

There are 5 items that we believe should be required to appear on the homepage:

  1. Title Tag: The Title Tag in the HTML header on the homepage should be presented in the following manner:

"Alpha Delta Pi: Your Chapter/Alumni Board"

Note: On secondary pages that are internal links from your homepage, the title tag may optionally include a subject with it. An example of this would be:

"Alpha Delta Pi: Your Chapter/Alumni Board: Recruitment"
  2. Main Body Information: At the beginning of the main body of your homepage the following information needs to be presented:

    Alpha Delta Pi Sorority
    Your chapter designation
    Your university
City and State university is located

This can be presented with either text, graphic, or a combination thereof.
  3. Mailto Reference: At the bottom of the homepage, the chapter/alumni board website maintainer's email address embedded into a "mailto" HTML tag needs to be provided along with his name. To do this, the following tag needs to be placed in your HTML source.

    <a href="mailto:your_email@address.edu">Your name</a>

Note: A general email address such as "adpi@mail.mcneese.edu" may be used to replace a personal address. This is usually the case when a chapter has applied for a organizational account through their college or university. However, when submitting a new chapter page to be linked to another Alpha Delta Pi website a full name and direct email address to the website maintainer should be provided.
  4. Last Updated Reference: At the bottom of the homepage, the website maintainer should make a note as to when any of the pages were last updated or changed. This can be done simply with a note like this:

This page was last updated on February 13, 2000.
  5. Recruitment Section or Internal Link: If this is a chapter website, the homepage should have a section or internal link to another page providing information on recruitment. This section or page should have contact information whether it is pointing to the VP of recruitment's email address or a general phone number, whichever you feel comfortable with. Information should also be provided about the IFC recruitment schedule or an external link to an IFC/Greek page referencing this information page may be made.
Section 2: General Content

Objectionable or Offensive Material: This chapter's website maintainers shall not present objectionable material in the form of any graphic, audio, textual, or any other media on the websites. Nor shall this chapter's website maintainers provide links to other web pages or Internet mediums that provide such content.. These include but are not limited to pornography, and offensive texts.

This chapter's web pages shall not include any remarks that are racially, sexually, or religiously slurred, nor provide links to to pages that provide such information. Pages should be kept in a manner that they are presentable in a positive manner to the general public and represent Alpha Delta Pi in its highest standards. Copyrighted Material: If using outside sources, such as newspaper or magazine articles and book passages, this chapter's website maintainers shall provide proper citation giving credit to the author. Permission should be obtained from the author and/or publisher.

Section 3: Use of Graphics

Using Outside Sources of Graphics: The Internet has many sources stating that they are archives for World Wide Web graphics. When using these sources, be very careful because these archives may just simply be sites that its maintainer created to store images that he or she has collected. In effect these graphics may be images that have copyrights on them.

Use of Official Alpha Delta Pi Logos: Graphics to include the Alpha Delta Pi letters & logos, may be used by chapter's website maintainers on their pages. The graphics may be altered to match a theme in their page, however the graphic itself must remain intact, and keep the original style. Graphics that are part of another graphic in which itself present a negative perception may not be used. An example this would be the skull and crossbones.

Defacing official Alpha Delta Pi logos in a negative way not representing the graphic for which it was intended are grounds to preclude this chapter from being linked to other Alpha Delta Pi Websites. Furthermore, altering official Alpha Delta Pi graphics where they are mixed or merged with other graphics with other copyrights or trademarks present a legal risk to us, our chapter, and the national sorority headquarters.

Objectionable or Offensive Graphics: Once again, it is emphasized that objectionable or offensive graphics may not be used on this chapter's website.

Section 4: Website Administration

This chapter's website maintainer will take full responsibility for maintaining the site on a regular basis. Furthermore, as a chapter website maintainer, is responsible for notifying the necessary individuals of any changes such as URL, postal address, maintainers, etc.
