Sixteen McNeese State University students received the Summa Cum Laude (3.90-4.00) designation in spring commencement ceremonies held Saturday, May 21, at Burton Coliseum. Students who have enrolled and registered online for McNeese State University's summer classes have until 3:45 p.m. June 2 to pay fees. Classes begin June 7 for both the regular and first mini-sessions, while the second mini-session begins June 28. Summer 2011 term bills are available online to students through the MyMcNeese Portal or their Banner Self-Service account. Students can view and print their registration, fee deferrals and McNeese Bookstore PTA accounts.
Several activities are offered for area youth of all ages during the summer months on the McNeese State University campus. The McNeese Leisure Learning office offers numerous classes this summer for children of all ages—classes in guitar, cooking, digital photography, video game design, creative writing, Spanish, golf, forensic science, math and so much more.
"Ninth Thunder: Cough in a Lecture" Artists book McNeese State University professor of art, Heather Ryan Kelley, has recently had work accepted into two national exhibitions - one in New York and the other in Los Angeles. Kelley's print, "Milagritos, will be included in the New York Society of Etchers Inc. First National Exhibition show housed in the National Arts Club in June.

Three hurricane preparedness workshops for business owners will be offered in Lake Charles, Cameron and Jennings in June by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at McNeese State University. Presentations at these workshops will offer information about preparing for business interruption during a hurricane. Discussion will include assistance programs to protect the physical structures of a business, support services available during a storm and how a continuity plan can help protect businesses and get their doors open soon after the storm passes.
