(May 13, 2014) The 2014 session of the Governor's Program for Gifted Children at McNeese State University will be held June 8-July 26 and is currently accepting applications. The seven-week summer residential program is held on campus as a summer arts and humanities program for gifted students in Louisiana.
Morri Creech, a 1998 MFA Alumnus, was one of three finalists for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for poetry with his book, "The Sleep of Reason."
Registration for McNeese State University's summer session is currently underway through June 2, while registration for the fall semester is underway through Aug. 18.
McNeese State University's Class of 1964 will be honored during the annual celebration of the McNeese Alumni Association's Golden Scholar Society on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17. To share in this celebration, the Class of 1964 has invited classmates from 1939-1964 to participate, according to Stephanie Clark, McNeese assistant director of alumni affairs. "This is one of our favorite events that the McNeese Alumni Association sponsors. It's truly amazing to meet our Golden Scholars, visit with them and hear their stories about campus life," said Clark.
(May 12, 2014) Five orientation sessions are offered this summer for incoming freshmen for the 2014 fall semester at McNeese State University. All first-time freshmen are required to attend a one-day orientation, which includes a campus tour, skits from McNeese Blue and Gold Peerleaders and information about the first year of college. The orientations will be held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. May 21, June 4, June 13, June 26 and July 9 in F.G. Bulber Auditorium.
The McNeese State University Chemistry and Physics Department is currently taking applications for a graduate fellowship through the Doré School of Graduate Studies and Extended Education that leads to the Master of Science degree in environmental and chemical sciences. The fellowship is available for a currently certified Louisiana high school or middle school teacher to begin studies for the fall 2014 semester. The recipient will be awarded a $26,500 graduate level fellowship funded by the Board of Regents' Support Fund. The fellowship includes tuition, most fees and a stipend award for fall 2014, spring 2015, summer 2015 and summer 2016. The teacher will take classes, perform research and teach a freshman chemistry lab section.
