  MSU student chapter organization recognized

The McNeese State University student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management received the organization's Student Chapter Merit Award for providing exceptional opportunities for growth and development to its chapter members. The award was presented to McNeese from SHRM's national headquarters in Alexandria, Va.

The McNeese student chapter will also be recognized in SHRM publications and at its conferences.

According to SHRM Student Programs Manager Chuck Salvetti, the merit award program recognizes top chapters from among more than 400 SHRM-affiliated chapters nationwide.

"Recipients of the award have a proven track record of providing their members networking and educational opportunities which assist their members in making the transition from backpack to briefcase," he said.

With the support of the Imperial Calcasieu Human Resource Managers Association, the McNeese SHRM chapter conducted professional development opportunities for students, such as resume building and interview skills workshops; hosted career speakers; and organized a Dress for Success fashion show in collaboration with Talbot's and S&K Menswear.

The Society for Human Resource Management is the world's largest professional organization devoted to human resource management. Founded in 1948, SHRM represents more than 225,000 individual members in more than 125 countries and has a network of more than 575 affiliated chapters in the United States, as well as offices in China and India. Student membership is open to all full-time students at the university.
