The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at McNeese State University will offer three seminars for small business owners Tuesday, Sept. 29.
An Internal Revenue Service Business Basics Workshop will be offered from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Stream Alumni Center located at 600 E. McNeese St. Topics include paper filing W2s, accurate reports, functions of the IRS, hiring tips, determining net profit/loss, keeping adequate records, electronic filing, federal tax deposit regulations and tip withholdings. A Q & A regarding disaster losses to existing businesses will follow. The seminar is presented by the IRS, Louisiana Society of Enrolled Agents and SCORE-SWLA Chapter.
Another seminar titled “Wage and Tax Reporting for Payroll Workers” will be presented from 1-4 p.m. at the Stream Alumni Center. Topics will include W2 reporting, 941 reports, business services online, social security number verification, changes for tax year 2009 and end-of-year payroll actions. The seminar is presented by the Social Security Administration, the IRS and the Louisiana Department of Revenue.
Another seminar titled “Starting and Financing a Small Business” will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Burton Business Center. Topics include discovering if you’re entrepreneur material, obtaining information on financing the start-up, learning how to write a business plan and understanding what a banker really wants to know.
