  Kodály Concert June 23

The Kodály Institute at McNeese State University will present a free student Chamber Music Concert at 5 p.m. Monday, June 23, in Ralph Squires Recital Hall at the Shearman Fine Arts Center.

The program will include performances by Heidi Dearborn on piccollo, performing F. Brockett’s “The Mocking Bird”; Sarah Currier, soprano, Mozart’s “Agnus Dei”; William Clement, tenor, Britten’s “The Sally Garden”; Sarah Rhinehart Walker, violin, Tchaikovsky’s “Sad Song”; Christine Miller, soprano, Mozart’s “Alleluia”; James McKenzie, trumpet, Mozart’s “Concert Rondo, K 371”; Mary Townsend Brockett, soprano, Bach’s “Ich Will Dir Mein Herze Schenken”; Hannah Schlage-Busch, soprano, Bach’s “Variations on Jesu Meine Freude”; Heidi Dearborn and Kari McCarty, flute duet, Kuhlau’s “Duet No. 1, Op. 10 (Allegro con espressione); Peggy Lee Fletcher, soprano, Brahms’ “Die Lotusblume”; Lori Young, soprano, Schumann’s “Below in the Valley”; Cory Dearborn, trumpet, Corelli’s “Prelude and Gigue”; Rachel Davis, bassoon, Vivaldi’s “Allegro”; and Laurie Robertson, soprano, Bernstein’s “Four Recipes.”

The institute is a three-week annual program at McNeese that is dedicated to Kodály, a pedagogical approach to teaching musicianship. Attendees include music teachers from schools nationwide.
