The McNeese State University department of performing arts will present guitarist Jay Kacherski in a free guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in Ralph Squires Recital Hall at the Shearman Fine Arts Center.
The program includes “Cedro blanco,” Leonardo Coral; “El Decameron Negro,” Leo Brower; “Koyunbaba,” Carlo Domeniconi; “Sonata,” Joaquin Turina; “El Enigma del Hombre Sintesis,” Guillermo Diego; and “Saudade No. 3,” Roland Dyens.
Kacherski currently resides in Mexico City as a Fulbright Scholar, researching and performing the contemporary classical guitar music of Mexico. The guide for his work in Mexico City is world-renowned Mexican guitarist Juan Carlos Laguna. Kacherski, who earned his master’s degree in guitar performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., most recently performed at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, the Music at Midday Concert Series in Washington, and the Casa Borda Cultural Center of Taxco, Mexico. During the fall semester of 2007, Kacherski was a member of the guitar faculty at the Escuela Nacional de Musica, the music conservatory for the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, where he held a guitar studio of college and prepatory students.
